A former full professor of Energy and Environmental Systems at the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Salento, he has been president of Acquedotto Pugliese S.p.A. since September 2021.
From 2007 to 2013 he was rector of the University of Salento, which, profoundly reformed, ranked among the top 300 universities in the world, fifth among Italian universities and first in the south.
From November 2015 to May 2021 he was director of the Department of Economic Development, Innovation, Education, Training and Labor of the Apulia Region. Between 2019 and 2020 he was in charge, ad interim, of the Apulia Region's International Cooperation Department, dealing with the Interreg Italy-Greece Program.
From 2017 to 2020 he served as Managing Authority of the Interreg Italy - Albania - Montenegro Program.
From 2011 to 2013 he was president of the Union of Mediterranean Universities.
